Fourteen years ago, David Maus had no money and his newborn son had a hole in his heart.

“I said if I made money, I would make sure that no one would ever go through that again,” says Maus. Today, 14-year-old Tyler is healthy, and Maus is one of the country’s biggest Toyota dealers, co-owning David Maus Toyota in Sanford, Florida.

And he has kept his promise. Maus’ projects are boundless.

For example, at $35,000, he has underwritten a room to the Ronald McDonald House by Arnold Palmer Medical Center in Orlando. A family can stay in the 400-square-foot room while their sick child is treated. This support is critical, says Lou Ann DeVoogd, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida.

“Our families come from all over the world, and they have nowhere to stay,” says DeVoogd. “The Ronald McDonald House provides that comforting care.”

The employees at David Maus also cook dinner for the families once a month, says DeVoogd.

And Maus supports the Children’s Miracle Network, raising more than $40,000 for them last year. “They make all the dreams of kids with terminal diseases come true,” says Maus.

“It’s really what he does for the community that sets him apart. When we ask for something, he is there for us,” says DeVoogd.
